USDT networks compared: TRC-20, ERC-20, BEP-20, TON, SOL

USDT is one token living on several blockchains at once. The network you pick sets the fee, the confirmation time and whether the money arrives at all. Below are the five networks available for deposits and withdrawals: TRC-20, ERC-20, BEP-20, TON and SOL.

Why one token has five networks

Tether issues USDT on Tron, Ethereum, BNB Chain, TON and Solana, among others. Economically these are the same dollar from the same issuer; technically they are separate tokens on separate chains with no direct view of each other.

Hence the rule that outranks every other one here: the sending network and the receiving network have to match. USDT sent over BEP-20 to an address expecting ERC-20 does not convert in transit. If that address belongs to a wallet whose private key you hold, the tokens can usually be recovered by hand; if it is a platform deposit address, the odds are close to zero.

About those 0x addresses: ERC-20 and BEP-20 share the Ethereum address format, so the strings are identical in shape. Nothing in the address reveals the chain — only the selections made in the sending and receiving interfaces do. This is the single most common way transfers are lost.

Choosing by situation

  • Moving funds off an exchange at a predictable cost — TRC-20, where the fee is small and rarely spikes.

  • Balance already on BNB Chain or Solana — send natively instead of bridging the token around to save cents.
  • ERC-20 earns its place only when the USDT already sits on Ethereum and moving it elsewhere would cost more than one round of gas.

Network fee and withdrawal fee are separate charges

The network fee goes to the blockchain and no platform controls it: on Ethereum it drifts through the day with demand, while Tron, TON and Solana stay cheap and steady.

The withdrawal fee is built differently — a fixed part denominated in the coin plus a percentage of the amount, with values that vary by coin and network. The consequence is arithmetic: on small amounts the fixed part takes a visible share, so five little requests cost more than one larger one, while on large amounts the percentage carries the weight.

What this looks like on a deposit

The sequence: pick the coin, pick the network, copy the address from that exact screen, then send using the same network on the wallet side.
